Morning walks started as a way to help Katarina wake up - really wake up - before school started in the morning. We made plans for the school day, and discussed any questions or concerns she had with the planned assignments.
But our morning walks quickly became a chance for us to talk about everything. We might stop to watch a lizard scamper past us, or even to make wishes with dandelions, but the most important thing we do is talk to each other.
Three laps around the sidewalk quickly becomes six, or ten, and we walk through the door a little giggly and a lot ready to conquer the day.
These walks have become one of my favorite times of the day.
Summer is here, and even though exercise isn't often my thing and not having school is a great opportunity for sleeping in and being lazy, we are going to keep morning walks in our schedule. They might happen a little later, but I'm still making them a priority. Because there is nothing better than getting your kid out of the house, away from distractions, and hearing her thoughts, and joys, and feelings, and hopes, and concerns, and theories, and wishes. That is a blessing I want to have in my life every day.
I wish for you a lot of giggles, and a great conversation with someone you love today.
What is the best place you have found to have conversations with your family? And what are you wishing for today?
Your walks sounds like such a great part of your day. I've found when I take the time at bedtime to really ask questions, that's when I have the best conversations with my kids.
ReplyDeleteBedtime is always a little crazy at my house, so it isn't great for talking...but I love that you have found the special time that works for you. That is awesome.
DeleteI love the idea of daily walks. It's something that both of you will remember forever. For the past year I have been taking my son for some medical care and the car rides are about five hours each way. As long as the trips are, I know that I will always remember the time we had, just the two of us.
ReplyDeleteI have the best conversations with my kids at bedtime. They always get chatty when it's time for bed. I know it's a stall tactic, but it's worth it ;)
ReplyDeleteWe totally take walks int he evening after dinner as a family and I too love this time spent with my loved ones just enjoying each other :)
ReplyDeleteYou are an amazing photographer! Loved the picture. Our family connects over dinner. We are old school like that, but I love the idea of a walk in the evening and that is what I find myself wishing for. We have the time (usually) and the weather is decent now. No excuses, right?!
ReplyDeleteI love making wishes on dandelions. We did this all the time when I was young! Maybe I need to start that up again.
ReplyDeleteI love that you go on these morning walks with your daughter. What a great bonding time yall have plus a little exercise. :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so glorious. Before the weather turned..hideous.. walking at the dog park was our favorite family activity. Everyone would walk away happy and it's like you can't be sad at a dog park! Too much joy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful plan. I absolutely love this and that you and your daughter have a chance to get some real conversation in.
ReplyDeleteWe want to start going on daily walks in the morning. Perfect way to get a little exercise and a little family time.
ReplyDeleteI love walking with the kids .....it is great and along the way we seem to find several conversation starters, frogs, bugs, lol
ReplyDeleteI remember these as a kid and now my kids find these in the yard and love to blow them! We need to take more walks as a family, it's just SO hot here in florida!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. I bet she looks forward to it every day just like you do.
ReplyDeleteMy kids have really opened up to me at bedtime through the years. I'm not sure why, but it happened a lot.
ReplyDeleteMy dandelions are never that pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love this! What a great way to start every day. I remember an occassional walk when my kids were younger and my almost-too-grown boy would causally slip his hand into mine. I'm glad you are keeping that traditon through the summer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tradition to have.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great way to bond! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lovely way to spend the morning. I bet you two have a lot of fun together!
