Is Family Mobile The Best Wireless Plan?

#FamilyMobileSaves #cbias #shop disclosure
Last month, Thomas got a MyTouch phone for Father's Day. I promised you an update on the phone and the Walmart Family Mobile service he would be using. It was the lowest price rate plan, offering unlimited talk, text, and web at $40 a month. We were very happy with the price, but you never know how well a cell phone service will work until you try it.

Family Mobile Best Wireless Plan

Family Mobile has not disappointed us. We have been pleased with the call quality, and even when he is in a store, or away from the city, he hasn't experienced any dropped calls. The data and 3G speed feels just as fast as our wireless, which is really nice.

Thomas is texting every day, and the unlimited texting is good for his business. He found it makes his tree clients happy that they do not have to stop in the middle of what they are doing to call him, but can send off a quick text instead.

Texting poolside

At first, I was not sure if he would like using the touchscreen keyboard, but the MyTouch has a Swipe feature that he loves. You put your finger on the screen and move from letter to letter, as opposed to clicking each letter individually. He uses the Swipe for web browsing and facebook as well, and even has the audacity to brag he Swipes faster than I type.

May we talk about apps?
Rainy Day
Thomas using his weather app - because sticking your head out the door just isn't as much fun.

This is Thomas' first smart phone, so apps were a new thing for him. Now he has a weather app to track the rain, a music app, a radio app (it cracks me up, because it looks like an old fashioned radio dial), and an app from the library that enables him to borrow and download audiobooks straight to the phone.

MyTouch Cell Phone

I asked Thomas if he liked his phone, and his answer was:
"I love the fact that I can catch up on a book while cutting a tree, send a text to my customer, listen to the news on the way to the next job, call you to see what I need to pick up from the grocery store, check my Facebook messages, and top off the day with Miles Davis on the bus ride home... and it is all unlimited."

One unexpected use for the phone came a couple of weeks ago when Thomas was at work. He was cutting a tree, and a wasp stung him in the eyelid. He quickly pulled out the phone, and used the front facing camera to take a picture of his eye so he could make sure he got the stinger out, and check the swelling.
Wasp Sting On Eyelid

He has taken much more exciting pictures since then (Or less exciting? Maybe more pleasant and fun are the right words.), but that was certainly a use for the phone camera we did not anticipate.

I joked last month that giving Thomas a cell phone was almost like giving myself a gift, but it really does make both of our lives easier.

Thomas calling home from the store
What do we need from the store? Cream soda and ice cream, of course.
It has been great to have a wireless service that does not come with the stress of a huge bill at the end of the month. The online account management and information makes it easy to check your balance, and take care of any customer support needs you might have. Thomas received a text message for his first (prorated) bill last week. It will be super easy to pay online, over the phone, or even at a Walmart store.

You can see my shopping trip to activate the phone in my #FamilyMobileSaves Google+ Album.
If you are looking to change your phone service, or start with a new service for a family member, I suggest checking out the Walmart Family Mobile unlimited plans. The price is amazing, and the service is great.

Saying Goodbye To Google Reader

I put it off as long as I could, but I finally broke up with Google Reader this week. I guess we could say it was a mutual thing. Google Reader is breaking up with everyone on July 1st.

Are you prepared for the demise of Google Reader? Have you picked out your new feedreader, or the new system you will use to keep up with all your favorite blogs? (To keep up with me?)

Feedly - After trying most of alternatives, I have decided to go with Feedly. Feedly feels a lot like Google Reader. It not only allows you to organize your blog subscriptions into folders, it will also bring over your existing folders when you import your information from Google Reader. I have several hundred rss subscriptions that were all organized in folders, so this was a HUGE selling point for me. Feedly also makes sharing posts on social media easy from within the reader.

BlogLovin' - A lot of people are moving to BlogLovin'. The people who like it, LOVE it. If BlogLovin' is your new reader of choice, you can follow From Tracie over there by clicking on this button.

Follow on Bloglovin

A Few Other Readers - If Feedly and BlogLovin' aren't speaking to you, you might want to check out some of these options: The Old Reader was built when Google Reader originally shut down its social sharing functions, it looks and feels like the Google Reader of yore (pre-Google+). Newsvibe is very simple, with no app or social sharing integrations built in. Netvibes is a good combination of Google Reader and iGoogle. They have free and paid versions. Digg Reader is something that a lot of people are very excited to try. I can not give you much information about it, because it hasn't been released yet, but it is something to keep in mind to try in the near future.

Email - If email is more your speed, I have got you covered. You can enter your email address in the form below to subscribe to From Tracie.

Social Media - Maybe you are going to click on new blog posts when you see them shared on social media instead of setting up a new feedreader.

I love social media. Today I am going to make it easy for you to find me...

I Was An Almost-Librarian

I am at Melt into the Text today, the amazing SuperTeala's blog, telling you about the time I was an almost-librarian.

The summer before fifth grade was one of the best summers of my life. It was the year my school decided to rearrange the library, sell a large amount of old books, and bring in an even larger amount of new books. All of those new books needed to be cataloged, have card holders glued into the front covers, and be shelved appropriately...

Visit Melt into the Text to read about my summer as an almost-librarian.

You will want to click around while you are there, and get to know Teala. She is amazing. And she has some exciting library plans of her own. You will love her. I promise.

Do you have a special library memory?

The Package - NKOTB

This happened over the weekend:
Posing With New Kids On The Block Giant Heads
Tracie, Aimee, Lee, Giant NKOTB Heads
The Package Tour.
New Kids On The Block. Boyz II Men. 98 Degrees.

I have very little memory of 98 Degrees, outside of their General Hospital appearances. (Does anyone else remember those special episodes?) But New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men were my favorites.

Lee and I went to the NKOTBSB tour two years ago, when Boyz II Men made a surprise appearance (it was amazing - I did not have my camera with me, for which I will always kick myself), so this felt like a bit of a reunion to us. During the concert they talked about how that night inspired this tour.

I did bring my camera this time, and I have two pictures for you.
NKOTB On Stage
New Kids On The Block
I have to share this one, because it was such a great moment - Boyz II Men are on the middle stage, with New Kids On The Block on the stage below them.

A 90's dream come true.
Yeah. My weekend pretty much rocked.

Goldfish Snacks Are An Even Bigger Catch

#makeitgopuff #shop #cbias
Do your kids get extra hungry in the summer? Katarina seems to go through more snacks when the heat hits. (Let's be honest, so do I.) We homeschool through summer. In addition to the important tradition of the after-school snack, Katarina has been hungry in the morning after working on her research paper. This is adding up to a lot of snack food I have to buy.

Enjoying the weekend with a book and Goldfish snack

Pepperidge Farm snacks are always a hit with my family. Those little bags of Goldfish get eaten pretty quickly. We found the new Goldfish Puffs at Target, and Katarina was excited to try them.

Goldfish Snacks at Target
For more pictures of our shopping trip, check out my #MakeItGoPuff Google+ album.
The big bags make it easier to eat them right out of the bag - like chips - which is definitely Katarina's preferred snacking system. Now that she is a tween, her hands don't fit in those little bags to pull out a handful of goldfish as easily as they did when she was five or six.

Not only are the bags bigger, the goldfish themselves are bigger. Which is great when you have a tween trying to eat all your snacks in one sitting.

When Katarina and I aren't hard at work on research papers and math, we spend a lot of our summer hours at the pool. We took our new-found Goldfish Puffs with us this weekend, because poolside snacks are a necessity.

Goldfish Puffs by the pool

When I was a kid, my mom instilled into me a firm belief that you have to eat something crunchy and cold after a swim. We lived near the beach, and on the way home, we always stopped at a grocery store with a fabulous salad bar. To this day I want a big drink and a crisp, cold salad when I get out of the water.

give your salad a cheesy crunch

Katarina thought it would be a great idea to use the Goldfish Puffs in place of croutons on our post-swim salad. They gave the salad a great crunch and a kick of flavor. We were both impressed.

Turning your snack food into a component for an early dinner is the food equivalent to taking your favorite dress from day to evening wear. It takes high snacking skills to do this, but Katarina is a snacking expert. Plus, the Goldfish Puffs made it easy.

What is your family snacking on these days?

This Is Why I Will Never Read Another Book Series With My Husband

I love to read books with other people. Right now I'm reading the Outlander books with Tia, the Harry Potter books with Katarina, and the Wheel of Time books with Thomas.

That last one is special, because Thomas is not a reader. It has been wonderful to share books with him for the first time in our decade-long marriage. He started the series first, and is on book five of fourteen. I quickly caught up, and moved ahead to book seven. Sometimes we read passages aloud to each other. When he comes home at night, we talk about what he read on the bus. It is magic.

Thomas Reading Wheel of Time Book Five The Fires Of Heaven

That is, it was wonderful to share books with him. It was magic.

Until one dark and stormy night when he got on the internet...

The magic actually started to fizzle two weeks before that night.
Thomas found a companion book to the series in the bookstore, and flipped through it. He came home, and told me information he was sure I already knew (being two books ahead of him). But it was not information I knew.

I read the next book looking for the death of a major character on every page, because of his slip. The anticipation of this death for the first 700 pages prevented me from being really emotionally connected to the moment when it finally happened.

I did not understand why he would look at a companion book before finishing the series, but maybe I should have seen something like this coming. As he progressed through each book, Thomas seemed to be getting more and more nervous, interrupting my reading every few chapters to ask, "Is it still good?" and quickly bemoaning, "It is getting stupid isn't it? Robert Jordan is going to ruin the story. I am wasting my time. I just need you to tell me so I can be prepared." He was worried. I assured him that the story was still good, and he would not be disappointed.

For the next two weeks, I thought he was satisfied. I also thought revealing the death of a major character was the worst thing he could do. Until that dark and stormy night when he got on the internet.

That night, Thomas turned to google. I was peacefully dreaming; unaware that two feet away from me, a travesty of book reading was happening.

He says he just wanted a little more information about one character - there was a mysterious element to this character's backstory, and he was convinced he had missed something (he hadn't; it was supposed to be mysterious - mysterious things are GOOD). Google led him to several websites devoted to discussing and dissecting The Wheel of Time books.

What started as a quest to find information about just one character turned into an hours long search for information.

It culminated in him finding out the ultimate story of several lead characters, and looking up the ending of the series.

This was worse than looking at a companion book early, or even reading the end of a book first (which I will never understand - that is just wrong).

He read the end of the entire series.

The next morning, he confessed his late night internet searches to me.

But this confession seemed much too happy to be a real confession. He was proud of himself. Excited about the websites he had found, and the information he now held.

I was horrified. Disbelieving that he would do something so horrible. Thinking he must be teasing me, trying to get a rise out of me. But as he kept talking, it finally settled into my mind that he was telling the truth. He now knew the ending of the series - nine books too soon.

But the worst part about this - the absolutely worst thing - is that he can not keep his mouth shut. He asks leading questions about what I'm reading, and makes small statements that give things away. So far he has not revealed anything as big as a character dying, but I fear a major revelation is coming.

(It might be necessary for me to take a vacation until I can finish the rest of the series. For Thomas' protection. Because I love him. Even if he is an end-of-the-book-series-reading-cheater.)

Thomas says finding out the end of the series was the best thing he could have done. Now he does not have to be worried that it is going to get stupid or make him mad, and he can just enjoy it. That is why he was not at all ashamed to tell me what he had done the next morning.

I do not understand this thinking.

Reading is a risk. On every page you risk giving your heart away to a character, only to have the author make them do things you are sure they would never do. You risk the story taking a wrong turn. You risk breaking a lamp when you throw a particularly upsetting book across the room.

Sometimes the risk does not work out in your favor, and you find yourself disappointed. But there are times when a book is perfect. The characters are amazing. The story flows. You find yourself laughing or crying at just the right moments. The story sits with you for days (or weeks, or even years) after you close the cover on the final page. Those moments of perfection make the risk worth it.

Do you read the end of the series first, or look up outside information about books while you are reading them? Or do you allow the story to reveal itself to you as the author intended?

I am new to this whole cell phone camera thing - having been jolted into the current century only this month when Thomas got a new phone. This is the second week I have been on this thing y'all call Instagram (come find me on Instagram, please, so I won't be lonely), and I am loving it.

We have Hibiscus all around our home. I have read that you can dry it for eating, or make it into a tea, but I have never tried either of those things.

There has been an increase in spam comments the last two months. Every spam robot has its own strategy to get you to publish its comments. These are some of my favorites.

I want you to think I'm asking a question:

This comment has a question mark in it. Surely I should publish it, and then visit that web page to answer.

I am a great author. Thank you spam robot.

I will give you advice:
I think that everything published was actually very logical. But, what about this? suppose you were to write a killer headline? I ain't saying your information is not solid, but suppose you added something that grabbed people's attention? I mean "A Hat Full of Baby Squirrels" is kinda plain. You might peek at Yahoo's home page and see how they create news titles to get people to open the links. You might add a related video or a picture or two to get readers excited about everything've written. Just my opinion, it could make your website a little livelier. Also visit my web page
I am so sorry that the seven pictures I included in this post were not enough for you. Next time I write about raising baby squirrels, I will be sure to give it a more exciting title like, "Are These Robot Squirrels Trying To Kill You?" or "If You Don't Do This, All The Squirrels Will Die" or "Baby Squirrels Attack Blogger And Steal Her Hat - News At 7."
Howdy, There's no doubt that your blog might be having web browser compatibility problems. When opening in Internet Explorer 3, it has some overlapping issues. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Apart from that, wonderful blog! Feel free to surf to my blog.
If you are trying to open anything in Internet Explorer 3, you have more issues than just a little overlapping.

Maybe if I insult you, you will publish this comment:
At first I thought this was good article, and then I realized it seemed to be written by someone who is brain dead. Is that you Eric! Nah. Even Eric isn't extreme stupid. You should not be allowed to use pen. To learn something real, you check out site where people write smart like this: ____
I am so glad to know that Eric isn't extreme stupid. I would address your claim of my being brain dead, but my pen seems to have run out of ink.

I have random information to share:
It allows both parities involved, who are not ready to make a real commitment, to make a lesser commitment. While we don't think of divorce as being very common in the 1920's, this newspaper article stated the need for the divorce ring due to "divorce having become so frequent that it is considered there is a need for a distinctive emblem. Oftentimes, couple will give promise to one another as a means of declaring their love for one another.
Why are you telling me about these 1920's divorce rings? Are you selling them? I am pretty sure it would not go well if you gave someone a divorce ring to declare your love.
The other day, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a thirty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone! Here is my website.
Thank you so much for sharing. I was sitting on the edge of my seat, wondering if anyone had thrown an iPad off of a building.

A Letter To The Girl Who Is Hurting And Confused

There is a wonderful girl I love, who inspired this post, but it is not only for her. This letter is for any girl, any woman, who has been hurt by life, and feels scared and empty.
You Are Not Alone

To the girl who is hurting and confused,
You are not alone. I know that seems like a simplistic platitude, but I want you to truly know it, to feel it deep within your soul. You are not alone. Our hurts may be different, our confusion might come from different places, and the dark path we are standing on might be hundreds of miles away...but the feelings are very much the same.

I spent days and months, even a year, wondering if God was listening to my cries, or if He would ever speak to me again. Asking myself if I made it up - all those times I heard from Him before - or if I was crazy to believe in someone who no longer seemed to believe in me. Prayer seemed futile. I felt like a fake, and I was scared to admit it. It seemed like saying those words out loud would make it true; it would be a declaration from which I could never return.

I have prayed like that father, "I believe. Help my unbelief." Not knowing what else to say, but hoping so much I had enough faith left to make it work.

The image of the perfect Christian - she who never doubts, he whose prayers are always answered with a great miracle, they who always seem to be blessed beyond measure - that image is never the whole story. God is not magic, not someone you can control or bring into your own timing, and there is no formula to follow.

We are all struggling. When you have the courage to be honest about your struggles, you will find others walking that same path with you. It took a long time to feel my faith strengthen and grow, but God did not leave me alone in my pain. I still struggle, and I still have to reach out to those fellow travelers for help, but I know that my prayers are heard by a real and loving God.

If you don't have the words today, or you are scared to say them, allow yourself to be still and rest. I will sit beside the path with you, and watch. I will pray. And more than that, Jesus will. The Holy Spirit will. We will intercede for you in those dark days when you feel so alone.

There will be very few moments of perfection, and most of them will not come as the result of planning or anything you can control. That does not seem very encouraging, but it is honest. I have learned you can get through anything in this life if you are honest about it.

You are not your past - not the things that have been done to you, or the things you have done. You deserve to be seen without those filters. I can't promise that many people will take the time to look past them, but there will be some who do. Those people are special. Open up to them, allow them to see your heart, and allow yourself to see theirs in return. Jesus looks at you without those filters.

You will screw up. But those screw ups do not define you. Neither do the mistakes, bad choices, hurt feelings, pain, confusion, or loss. You are more than those things. Your story has not ended.

You have the capacity to show yourself great love and mercy, or to hurt yourself more than anyone else ever could. I hope that you learn how to show yourself the love you so richly deserve. Because you do deserve love, and you will not be able to fully receive it from someone else until you can receive it from yourself.

Healing can be instantaneous, but it can also be a process. The darker the night gets, the more it makes sense to carry the pain. It seems right to hold it close, as if it will buffer us against more hurt. But it doesn't work like that. The tighter you hold that pain, the deeper it will burrow into your heart.

Allow yourself to enter into the healing process. It takes work. It can hurt just as much, if not more, than the original wound. But once you embrace healing, once you allow yourself to walk that path, you will be blessed. Every breath is a blessing. Every second is a gift. Hope is real.

You are loved with a perfect love. Jesus knows every part of your heart - the hurts, the dreams, the fears. There is nothing you can say that will scare Him away, or make Him leave you. He longs to be close to you.

He loves you as you are, not as you "should" be, or as you want to be. You have done, and can do, nothing to deserve that love. Please don't put the untenable pressure on yourself of trying to deserve it. He will not turn you away or reject you. God loves you as you are right now.

You are special. It is not your family, your birthplace, your grades, your beauty, your achievements, or even your actions that make you special.

You are special because of your heart - your soul. The heart that maybe you don't feel safe showing to the world yet, the heart that has been broken and hurt more times than you can count, the heart that is so tired, the heart that doesn't know if it wants to keep beating, the heart that longs for more than it has and more than it has been given - that heart is the very core of who you are, and it is special.

You have a sparkle, grace, strength and creativity deep within you. They might lie hidden, and feel far from reach, but they are still there.

You have the ability to hope and dream. You are stronger than you know. You are amazing.

God does have a plan for your life. This plan is perfect for you. It might not look perfect to anyone else. It probably does not make sense to many people, and maybe not even to you right now. But that is the mystery of God. His perfection, His plans, His purpose are not ours.

Block out all the well-meaning voices telling you what you should do; allow yourself to step firmly into this seemingly crazy purpose, and you will find more perfection than you have ever known.

I will be here. Cheering you on. Praying for you. Believing on the days you can't believe. I will stand watch with you. More importantly, Jesus is here, standing with you. You are not alone.

N. Number of brothers/sisters? I am the only one, but I have several sisters of my heart who bless me every day.

O. Oranges or Apples? Oranges.

P. Phobias? Not really.

Q. Quotes? I shared some of my favorite quotes recently.

R. Reasons to smile? Life. Chocolate. Ridiculously long emails with friends. Cuddles with my kid. A husband who loves me. Shelves full of books.

S. Season of choice? Autumn and Winter.
I like crisp, cold air, orange leaves, scarves and jackets, and not sweating through my shirt the moment I walk out my front door.

T. Tag 5 People: Tia. Teala. Jen. Cindy. Joules.

U. Unknown fact about me? Come on now, y'all. Bloggers don't have unknown facts, do they? At least not ones that they want to spread around.

V. Vegetable? Pumpkin pie? That is about as close as I need to get to a vegetable, thank you very much, and please pass the whipped cream.

W. Worst habit? Procrastination.

X. Xray or Ultrasound? I seriously do not understand this question. Do you mean would I rather operate an Xray or an Ultrasound? Or would I rather be on the receiving end of an Xray or an Ultrasound? As I do not want to even begin to calculate the bill that would come with either of those, I'm going to assume it is the former. I would rather operate an Ultrasound.

Y. Your favorite food? Mexican food.
Followed by copious amounts of dessert.

Z. Zodiac sign? Eye of the tiger. That is as close to the zodiac as I get.

My Own Little Belle

A little less than two months are left before Katarina turns ten years old. I want to hold on to every minute of her nine-ness. I want to tuck aside memories of all the special things that made up this year of her life, before she crosses the bridge into the land of double digit years.

Katarina can almost always be found with a book. A large portion of her days are spent with the characters and worlds that live within pages. These are her favorite books and series from the past few months. Some of them are old friends, read over and over again, and some are new loves.

Katarina And Her Favorite Books

The books read when you are a child stay in a special corner of your heart that no other book can reach. In my quest to remember the ninth year of her life, I want to note what she was reading - the stories that captured her imagination, made her laugh, caused her think, sat with her in solitude, touched her heart, and broadened her world.

I want to remember the books we read together, and the ones she read alone, often staying up way to late to finish one more chapter (which often turns into two or even three more chapters).

Some of her favorite books are stories that sit in the special corner of my heart. Books I loved when I was a child, and have enjoyed revisiting with Katarina - traveling to far off places together, introducing each other to characters, and sharing the special understanding that only two people who love the same book can have. In those moments, we aren't just mother and daughter; we are friends as well. It is a beautiful blessing.

Don't Trade Me

"I felt a thrill when you picked me up, and took me home. You opened me gently; as you cried and laughed through my story, we stared at each other all night.

I want to be yours forever, please, don't trade me in for someone new," he whispered quietly from the stack by the door.

Ribbons and Gauze

He sat on a large rock. It was worn smooth on top, as if many travelers had stopped here before, resting tired feet, and deciding which path to take. It was a great place to remove his boot and shake out the twig that had somehow lodged itself next to his left foot.

The sound of laughter broke into his stormy thoughts. Hiking was his was of getting away from the world. He had never encountered anyone in these woods before, and wasn't happy about the change. Especially today.

He looked up to see two girls clutching handfuls of yellow flowers dancing down the path. The taller of the two girls whispered something to her companion, who responded with a laugh, and disappeared into the thick trees.

She turned to stare straight into his eyes. Her fingers quickly formed the flowers into a nosegay, tied with a ribbon pulled from her belt. She was all ribbons and gauze. Her skirt a flowing patchwork of colors. Her long hair tied up in a complicated mass of curls and braids that somehow seemed simple and natural.

Three quick steps brought her to him. She reached out a hand to lightly brush his cheek before deftly tucking the flowers into his vest pocket. She whispered, "Flowers are a soul's friend," and with a small squeeze of his hand, she danced away, into the thick trees.

He sat quietly on the rock, trying to understand what just happned. The smell from the flowers was the only sign either girl had been real. His ears strained for the sound of their laughter, but only birds answered. In any other time or place he would have thought her a freak, but here, in the dark woods, with the scent of flowers bringing a smile to his hard face, he only thought of the peace she left behind.

The Best Wireless Father's Day Gift

#FamilyMobileSaves #cbias #shop
Thomas needs a cell phone. He wants a smart phone with all the bells and whistles (and apps - lots of apps). I want a phone that works, a plan that won't lock us into a contract, and a price that won't scare me every month. It is important to find an unlimited plan, because I know Thomas will not take the time to track the minutes or data he is using each month, and we do not want to get hit with a huge bill.

We have been comparison shopping cell phone plans for a long time. I would get excited about an advertised price, but then find out there were extra charges to have a smart phone, or the smart phones they supported were not the ones we wanted. It was an overwhelming and frustrating search.

With Father's Day approaching, I started looking again. Thomas really does need a cell phone, and this would be a perfect time to get him something both useful and fun. I decided to try Walmart Family Mobile - an unlimited plan with no contract, and at $40 a month, a price that did not make me want to curl up in a ball and cry. It is the lowest price rate plan I have seen that meets every item on our list of needs.

$40 a month for unlimited talk, text, and web.
Thomas will be able to use apps, listen to music while he rides the bus, check the weather to decide which direction he needs to head for work in order to avoid rain (a must when you are a tree surgeon in Orlando), text, and talk on the phone. It is going to be the best Father's Day gift ever.

Plus, customers will be able to get in touch with him during the day without calling me. I will be able to call him when I need to ask him to stop by the post office or pick something up on the way home. (Does this mean his Father's Day gift is a present for me, too? Maybe. I am okay with that.) And he will be able to take picture of his tree work without having to take my camera with him to work each day.

I received a MyTouch phone in the mail (Isn't it pretty?), and took it with me to Walmart to activate the phone and service.

I expected it to be a long trip with a lot of paperwork and waiting, but it wasn't long at all. I purchased the Starter Kit, and only had to sign two pieces of paper. There was no credit check, and they did not ask for my social security number. They only wanted my name and a phone number.

With Family Mobile, you have the ability to manage your account online, including the initial phone activation. I wanted to make sure the phone was activated and the SIM card was installed correctly before I left the store, because I had never changed a SIM card. Jennifer (my new best friend) helped me get it set up. It only took a few minutes. She also showed me how to install the SD card I purchased for extra music storage on the phone.

In a month, I'm going to give you an update on what Thomas thought of his gift, and how we feel about the service.

I should admit one thing:
I have already tested the phone, and I might just be in love.

Deciding it would be bad to keep Thomas' Father's Day gift for myself, I checked into the price for adding a second phone. It would be $35 a month to add an extra line if I decide to get my own smart phone in the future. After talking to a lot of friends about their cell phone bills, and looking at prices for myself, I discovered that $75 a month for two smart phones with unlimited service is a really good deal. Maybe I should start dropping hints about a Labor Day present.

Labor Day could totally be a present holiday, right? I think so.
