1. Post Positive
This is a great place to start. I've been visiting the Post Positive event on facebook all day today, and it has been wonderful to read the messages of thankfulness and happiness left there. It really does make a difference when you fill your day with positive things.
2. Saying Thank You
I wrote a letter (yes, an actual paper letter in an envelope affixed with a stamp that had to be taken to the post office) to someone who was a major blessing in my life fifteen years ago. Sometimes it is good to go back to your roots, and recognize who helped you to become the person you are today.
3. Pictures Of Fall
I have a couple of amazing people in my life who live north of me, and they have been sending me pictures of fall this week. I love every single one of them (the pictures and the people), and it makes me giddy with happiness to look at their beautiful leaves.
4. A Husband Who Loves Subtitled Movies
We are watching our way through the library's foreign films section. I'm thankful Thomas likes random, offbeat movies as much as I do, and that he isn't afraid of a few subtitles.
5. Yellow
No list of thankfulness would be complete without at least one picture of something yellow. Some people would call this a weed, but I prefer to see it as a flower.
6. Phone Calls With Funny Stories
There is nothing better than a phone call that starts, "I know you are busy, but I had to call you for two minutes to tell you the funniest thing that happened today, because I know you are the one person who will really appreciate it," and ends with a whole lot of laughter. I had two of those today.
7. Clouds
There have been the most amazing clouds outside my window this week. In the "stop and appreciate the small beauties" category of life, clouds are on top of my list.
8. The Sun Breaking Through The Clouds
Literally and metaphorically. I've had a little bit of both this week, and I'm thankful for every sliver of light I see streaming down.
9. New TV Shows
I am so happy the fall tv season is here. My Hulu queue was very sad all summer, and now I have at least 15 lovely episodes sitting there just waiting to be watched. (Anyone have tips for adding 15 hours to my day so I can actually watch all of them?)
10. Rejoicing With Friends
This takes us back to number one. I love when my friends get good news, and I get to rejoice with them. Prayers answered. Hearts lifted. Happy moments. Good stuff.
What are you thankful for today?
Funny phone calls & texts make my day!
ReplyDeleteThey are always a bright spot!
DeleteLoved reading your thanks and #Post Positive! Your list of gratitudes made me smile. I watch a lot of tv and film with subtitles with my deaf teen. I remember taking her to foreign films in theaters because they always had English subtitles.
ReplyDeleteI blog about thankfulness. Hope you will visit and share something your thankful for!

It is great that you live near theaters that show foreign films, we don't have one near us.
DeleteI love the idea of going back to your roots and thanking someone who helped you become who you are today. Real hand-written letters have become so rare these days and are therefore so so precious. I also love photos of Autumn and movies with subtitles! I particularly like Italian, French, Spanish/South American and Swedish. I don't think your photo looks like a weed at all - my vote is definitely for flower :) Hope the rest of your weekend is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are going to vote flower with me. Hand-written letters really are precious. I save every one that comes to me. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, too!
DeleteWhat a treat to read your thankfulness list today. Just dropped by from SITS Girls' Saturday Sharefest, and so glad I did! My first time here (and also my first time at the ShareFest), but I have a feeling it won't be my last! Thanks for such an inspiring post today.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you stopped by! Hopefully you will be able to make the #SITSSharefest twitter chat this morning, too. Have a great weekend.
DeleteI don't know what the flower is - I just found it growing on the side of a path during a walk with my family this week.
ReplyDeleteCloud watching is always a good afternoon event.
Such a lovely list of positives. We could use more focus on that every day, I think - but one day is a great start. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I often see weeds as flowers, too - mostly because of my children.
I love how you watch different movies-adds spice to life!
ReplyDeleteYes, the fall up north is amazing right now. It's not peak yet, but it's about a week or to away. I can't stop driving around!
ReplyDeleteI miss the phone calls. Don't get to many of those. We type each other instead of skyp. I colors have reached their peak yet. I have taken pictures of golden rods though. here is the link http://mary-anderingcreatively.blogspot.com/2013/10/fridays-come-in-fives-around-here.html hope it is yellow enough. :)
ReplyDeletePS check out near the bottom of the post.
ReplyDeleteLove subtitled movies. I simply refuse to watch movies like House of Flying Daggers in any other language but Chinese, sounds so much better..
ReplyDeleteI also love fall, and love to finally see the leaves turning here. Hope for some more leaf bouquets from my daughter this year ;-)
The flower is really cute, yellow definitely brightens a day!
Have a great weekend!
Funny calls & emails make my day :) Oh yes, I'm so excited for fall TV!
ReplyDeleteI Have A Messy Bun
yeah I don't know what determines what is a weed there's so many beautiful ones out there.nice list. I love the cloud thing too. I just read Lizzy's comment there actually is a cloud society I wonder if she really is a card carrying member? will have to ask her.
ReplyDeleteMy only problem with subtitled movies is when I try to watch them when I'm really tired. If I close my eyes, I lose the plot!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful flower/weed indeed. (Shall we call it a fleed?)
ReplyDeleteTwo things made me jealous about your post. One, that you sent a real-life, written letter to someone. (Great idea to thank someone like that.) No one writes letters anymore. Even at the biggest letter-writing time of year, I get more and more simple pictures without even a signature.
So glad you linked up with us this week!
Secondly, you got two phonecalls in one day!?!? I didn't think anyone talked on phones anymore. You must have great friends to call you just to tell you something funny. Love that.
2. How wonderful that letter must have made the recipient feel! 4. We used to watch movies with subtitles back before we had kids. 5. Yellow is my favorite color. I don't look good wearing it, so I surrounded myself with it by painting my living room and family room yellow.
ReplyDeletewith everyone on the sub-titles ('Girl with Dragon Tattoo' was so much better in the original version).
ReplyDeleteLetter writing! damn! (tried that once, until I discovered that there was no back-space function and I had to start over with fresh, *different* piece of paper each time!
fun list
Great idea to send someone a letter, I think I'm so used to technology now I would never think to do it but it's so much more personal! Such a special way to communicate nowadays :)
ReplyDeleteKate | Diaries of an Essex Girl
Love this list! Handwritten letters are my favorite and yellow is the best color. Also, I'm loving all the new TV shows!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh you don't even know how excited I get when I see a dandelion in the spring...you know you're over winter when...
ReplyDeleteI love this. It's so good for the soul to stop and recognize all of those small things.
I live up north...I'll send you some chilly photos :)
This is such a wonderful idea. I need to sit down and make a list of things I am thankful for. Including sending a letter is a must. I haven't written one in ages.
ReplyDeleteI loved the post positive and I ADORE Ten Things I'm Thankful For. It really is true, reading about positivity makes you more positive. I have so much to be thankful for and if I thought about those things, even for just a few minutes at the start of each day, I bet I'd be facing each day with a better attitude and more happiness. This is fantastic!! (and your #4 made me smile. My husband isn't like that, but what a wonderful thing!! :) ) --Lisa
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! I love focusing on the positive things in life!
