These are some of my new favorite reading and book related quotes:
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!" - Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
“When you sell a man a book you don't sell him just 12 ounces of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life.” - Christopher Morley
“A man is known by the books he reads.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
“It is not true we have only one life to love, if we can read, we can live as many lives and as many kinds of lives as we wish.” - S.I. Hayakawa
“Your library is your portrait.” - Holbrook Jackson
“Wear the old coat and buy the new book.” - Austin Phelps
“Wear the old coat and buy the new book.” - Austin Phelps
Do you want to know more about my love of books?
-Once Upon A Time There Were Books - where I explain how much I love everything about books, even the smell.-So You Read the Last 10 Pages of the Book - where I share results of an informal pole about book reading, and vent about a crazy radio personality who doesn't read the last 10 pages of books.
-Thirteen Books I Can Not Pass By Without Picking Them Up - where I share some of my favorite books, and make bookstore employees nervous by taking pictures of myself holding books all over the bookstore.
What is your favorite book (as if someone can have just one)?
Happy us day!
ReplyDeleteOooh, love those quotes!
ReplyDeleteNice post, Tracie! Does anybody know how this celebration came to be on the nation's calendar? (I don't. Happened on your blog while trying to find out.)
ReplyDeleteI do not know the origins, and couldn't find anyone else who did either. But I did love that this site said, "There is some disagreement over when this day is celebrated. The vast majority of sites list it on August 9th. A smaller number of sites have it recorded on the first Saturday in November. If you are a true book lover, you will enjoy celebrating it on both days." http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/August/bookloversday.htm
DeleteI missed the official day, but bought three books today in honour of my love of books.
ReplyDeleteI love to read. I'm sure Jane Austen has to be a favorite, not to sound cliché. But I can read it again and again (all of them) and never grow bored.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. Jane Austen always makes me happy! I'm planning on embarking on one of hers this year with Katarina.
DeleteGreat quotes!
