In The Space Between

I feel her rushing toward nine. The last stop before the magic of hitting a double digit age. I want to savor every day of her eight-ness. Hold it close. Breathe it in. Remember each second. Whisper-giggle silly words with her for as long as she will let me.

I notice as she makes small stands.

"I can paint my own nails. But I want to use one of your colors."

Asserting her growing independence.

"I'm going to get ready for bed now, before you tell me to do it. This means I can stay up a little late reading, right?"

I smile quietly as I see her set her dolls and animals carefully in a row, and cover them up with a blanket before turning out the light.

In the space between little girl and all grown up

She is rushing toward nine. The last stop before the magic of hitting a double digit age. But she isn't quite there, yet.

Memories Captured

  1. I love how she painted only one hand. They grow up entirely too fast nowadays it seems

  2. This is such a sweet picture, and a great reminder that children do grow up rather quickly.

    And beautiful.

    And heart wrenching.

(I get this space, I have a sweet girl this age, too.)

    Beautifully done, sweet friend!
