When I Want to Write Mean Letters to Steve

I know it is going to be a long night when I hear these words: "Tracie, click into youtube and look up _____."

Yesterday Thomas learned his coworker is related to an old wrestler. This gave him much joy, because he grew up watching wrestling and knows who all those people are, and remembers watching them on tv every Saturday.

When Thomas said, "Tracie, click into youtube and look up The Bushwackers," I did not roll my eyes, even though I wanted to. That is a lie. I did roll my eyes, I just didn't let Thomas see me roll my eyes. I was a nice wife, and I politely watched the first video:

I watched the second, third, fourth...I watched a lot of videos. Some of them were long.

Have I mentioned that I don't enjoy watching videos?

I watched the Bushwackers, and Hulk Hogan, and The Rock. Then Thomas unsuccessfully tried to find a video of Steve Austin hitting Mike Tyson (I must admit, I might have enjoyed that one). I watched Andre the Giant (who was so much better in The Princess Bride), and a lot of other people whose names I have already forgotten.

While watching the videos, I was busy composing this letter in my mind:

Dear Steve, Chad, and Jawed,
This letter is to not thank you for inventing youtube. Long nights spent watching wrestling videos and music videos with my husband are cutting into my blogging time. They are also making me lose my mind. You should have stuck with PayPal, then I wouldn't be thinking mean thoughts about you right now.

Sincerely,
Tracie (wife to a man who loves youtube - a LOT)

Only my letter was possibly less polite than that. Especially by the time we hit the sixth video.

Do you make your loved ones spend hours watching videos on youtube?

This was my Sunday morning five minute stream of consciousness writing. Set the timer for five minutes...and go!

  1. My nephew and his fiance always have a dozen videos they want us to see on YouTube. Some of them are funny, and they did introduce me to dubstep. But sometimes, I know this feeling very, very well.

    1. Once in a while a funny one sneaks in there. It is good to know I'm alone (except that it means you are also being tortured by youtube, which isn't good).

  2. My husband is always making me google something and yes, he often wants me to watch videos, which I don't really have the attention span for.

BTW, I once got my haircut at a place called Bushwhackers. It was a horrible haircut and my sister and I always said the name of the place in the same voice as the wrestlers :)

    1. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one without the attention span for videos.

Who names a hair salon Bushwackers? That is hilarious!

  3. I'm just going to admit it, I'm the YouTuber of my group. I can't get enough of Marcel the Shell, silly kittens, and Sh*t people do/say. But wrestling? I'd probably skip that.

    2. Kallay and Michelle - at least you aren't watching wrestling! ;-)

  4. My boyfriend loves YouTube. We can be talking about something on the couch and he will ask if I know what it is, and if not, he will look up a video or a picture of the person or the movie or the song or whatever.

It can be helpful, but when I'm not feeling like watching or when I am trying to do something else or watch the real TV, it can be annoying.

    1. I like being able to look stuff up, but not when I'm in the middle of watching something (unless I can't remember who an actor is and it is distracting me, because that does happen sometimes).

  5. LOL! Do you have access to it on your television? If not don't let him find out there is "such a thing".

    1. Thankfully we don't have the internet connected to the tv. But we do have DVR which he is pausing, rewinding, and having me watch and re-watch some things even as I type this.

    2. I didn't know there was such a thing. And now it is my new goal in life to make sure no one EVER tells Thomas about it! eek!

    3. @a.eye Oh my goodness. My husband does that with the DVD player when we watch movies. AND he has got Katarina doing it too. I think they are going to need some kind of rewinding intervention soon.

  6. Not my husband, but my son. You are a saint. I could not sit & watch old wrestling videos - even if someone paid me. Except The Rock - and only because he's hot : )

  7. My oldest LOVES YouTube. Me not so much. I like it for posting my stuff, I like it to find songs that are on my mind, other then that I am not an addict or anything.

    1. I do occasionally look up a song or two - but Thomas doesn't know how to stop at just two (it is like potato chips).

  9. LOL, YouTube is pretty much how mine does Google search! Since I'm usually writing researching, reading, YouTube is not my distracts me. Minus his major interest in wrestling videos, which clearly connected back to being oldest of 5 brothers, and 1 sister. As a kid they all tried the move & know all the old school moves either for offense or defense, trust I have seem plenty of the wrestling videos. lol [although gotta ditto "The Rock" videos :)]I try to let it pass for all the times he finds some great classic music or artist I never heard, or the time he learned about opportunities for us to support non-profit "Samaritans Feet". We now developed an unspoken "look, nod, kiss" code for when my YouTube time limits get reached...

  12. I guess maybe this is a time when I have to say thank goodness that high speed internet is not available at my house?? Well I guess what we have is suppose to be high speed-- but try watching a video with it and you will agree with me that it is not. You wait 5 minutes for it to load, get 3 seconds of view time and then it has to download more. None of us has the patience for it-- and it seems we are always trying to conserve our internet as we go over every month- even without watching youtube..

    1. Slow internet is SO annoying. Even more annoying than wrestling videos on youtube!

  13. Oh em effing GEE, yes! Chebbar is FOREVER telling me to check something out, or asking if I watched the video he linked on facebook, or catching me unawares and just PLAYING one. I'm SO not a fan of videos. In fact, if I click on a link thinking it's a news story (to read) and it turns out to be a video, I close the damned link.

Get off my intertubez lawn, video-loving whippersnappers!

  14. I hate watching the same Youtube videos as the hubs. His tastes and what he finds funny are very different than mine. I do say you must have a lot of patience to have sat there for so long watching video after video. I'm probably not so nice, I make him watch that stuff on his smartphone, while I do my own stuff on the computer. The computer is mine!! lol

    1. This is exactly why we need to get smartphones. Then I wouldn't have to share the computer or watch videos!

  15. Ha! Just yesterday I added a page on my blog (www.1001ThingsToBeHappyAbout.com) for YouTube videos! Before you throw that soggy tomato at me, let me say, there is NO wrestling on any of the videos I linked to. None. I *did* link to Validation (which I think everyone should watch at least once in their life) and Jessica's Daily Affirmations which makes me laugh every time and then- for hours or days afterwards- makes me think about all the things in my life I love. Which does not include wrestling.

You're a good wife! Do you make him read blogs with you? =)

  16. Nope, don't make my loved one watch endless hours of YouTube. I'm not a fan of YouTube though occasionally will take a look at one or two that are of interest to me. I like the ones that offer useful information or are humorous or may put a smile on my face...education, laughter, light heartedness...hmmm the last two are humorous in a way...cause I am, for the most part, a serious person... :-)
