It is easy to tell that the people running this system have no personal experience with sexual abuse. They obviously don't understand the effect it has on the survivors and how those effects last for a lifetime.
It is time for people to wake up and realize that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are being sexually abused in this country. This is an epidemic and the answer to the problem will never be to ease up on those who have already committed the crime!
I was especially appalled at the way they seem to view incest as being less of an issue. I say this because the article says that if the offense falls under statutory rape or incest it will be easier to get the probation amended. They should realize that incest carries with it the added situation of often times the survivor is put in a situation to be near the abuser for the rest of his/her life (ie family gatherings, funerals, ect). I am sure that no one who has survived date rape walked away thinking to themselves "if only it had been my dad or my brother who raped me this would be so much easier to handle"
All of the intensive treatment in the world would not make me agree to leave my child with someone who I know is a child molester! A polygraph test comes too late when the person has already committed the crime.
They are so concerned with the perps and their families......It is obvious that they have no care for the victims.
Go to Searching for Angela Shelton to see how one woman is breaking the silence about what happened in her life. If you are a survivor, be sure to check out the forum. There is a lot of love and support and healing going on there!
